Media Release - November 9, 2005
(GUELPH, Ontario) - A new beat is drumming in 4-H Ontario.
Three original songs about 4-H values have been created to help promote 4-H
in Ontario, in celebration of the organization's 90th anniversary. The songs
will officially be debuted Saturday, November 19 at the University of
Guelph, by their writers and performers, the country rock band the GMOs
(www.gmomusic.com).
"The songs are really good. I was very impressed," said Martina Pfister, 4-H
Ontario Ambassador. "They will definitely work well in presentations I do
to promote the 4-H program."
The songs, "I Am Home," "Four Good Reasons" and "Giving Back," are being
posted on the 4-H Ontario website (www.4-hontario.ca). Members are
encouraged to download the music and use it as background for projects and
presentations, or however they see fit.
The songs reflect the organization's Learn To Do By Doing motto. They met
with rave reviews when previewed at Canada's Outdoor Farm Show earlier this
year, where they were played at 4-H Ontario's "Explore 4-H" building. Many
associations attending the show asked for copies of the songs to be used at
their local awards night and for marketing activities.
"The 4-H values of head, heart, hands and health were natural building
blocks," says GMOs drummer and co-founder Len Kahn of Guelph. "These values
evoke emotion and spirit and offer a great springboard for song writing.
Plus, everyone in the band has either been a 4-H member or has some
association with 4-H. We all drew on our positive experiences to help bring
the songs together."
"Live at the Lounge", The GMOs Second Annual Pre-Holiday Party, will be the
venue for the official release of these 4-H songs. The event takes place
Saturday November 19, 8 p.m., at the Graduate Students' Lounge, University
Centre, at the University of Guelph. Admission for this all-ages event is
$5 for students and $10 for all others.
Since 1915, hundreds of thousands of young people have participated in 4-H,
an organization that combines "hands-on" education with a fun and safe
learning environment. Through the dedication of 1,500 volunteers, 6,400
members participate in a variety of projects, ranging from livestock to life
skills to drama and social recreation. 4-H Ontario is dedicated to the
personal growth of young people by developing their self-confidence and
teaching them skills in leadership, public speaking and team building.
